Message from the candidate:
It is hard to fathom that four years has passed since I asked Stokes County to support me as a candidate for the Stokes County Board of  Education.
"Time flies when you're having fun, right"! I asked for a chance to serve you and the children of Stokes County and you overwhelmingly gave me that opportunity.
The Board of Education experience has been 5 ½ years of educating Sonya. There has been much to learn and admittedly some things I've learned the hard way. I have certainly learned a considerable amount about the people of this fine county and have a re-newed respect for how things are viewed no matter what part of Stokes County you reside in.
I feel as if we have accomplished a great deal during my tenure on the BOE. Student achievement has certainly increased as well as our test scores. In the last four years the number of our schools that met expected

growth, has increased from 77% to 88.9%. Our county is one of the leaders in our State in Data Driven Instruction.
We have a wonderful working relationship with our County Commissioners and together, we are on the precipice of seeing the reality of a new elementary school to alleviate overcrowding in the West district. We have a comprehensive facility study that is a semblance of a blue-print for our future facility needs. As a Board we have also strived to maintain more of a sense of openness and transparency  in the way business is conducted. The role of the Board of Education truly plays only a small part in the few examples of success I have mentioned. I would be remiss not to mention that Stokes County Schools, without question, has some of the most remarkable, hardest working employees in this state. We have passionate, dedicated educators and coaches who consistently amaze me. They continue to rise to the task, no matter how challenging and with seemingly fewer resources each year. They realize that monetary rewards my be few but the impact they have on the future is a huge reward. To all of you, Thank you again for your tireless efforts on behalf of our students.
I ask you, Stokes County, for a chance to finish some things we've started and to deal with issues that still need to be addressed.
If re-elected, it is my desire to not only help build a better school system for Stokes County but a brighter future for the children of Stokes County.
Thank you for your continued support,

Sonya M. Cox
